Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long will my tan last?

Spray tans typically last 5-10 days, but they may last longer with proper prep and maintenance!

  • Can I tan while pregnant?

Spray tanning is safe for most people, including expecting women. However, every pregnancy is unique, so please consult your physician if you have any questions or concerns.

  • What do I need to do before my spray tan?

Before your spray tanning session, make sure to exfoliate your skin thoroughly the day before (or 12-24 hours in advance). This will help remove any old sunless tan and eliminate dead skin cells for a smooth, even result.

It is not recommended to complete your prep/shower the day of your appointment.

Ensure that all makeup, deodorant, and lotions are completely removed. Make sure any nail appointments, waxing, facials, and/or massages are done at least 24 hours before your spray tan appointment.

For more info on how to prep for your appointment, please see the Pre and post care Instructions.

  • Do you offer rapid tans?

Yes! You can rinse your tan as quickly as 3 hours after your appointment. However, rinse time can impact the depth of development of your tan.

Since my formulas are customized for each client, rinse times can vary based on individual preferences. Be sure to communicate your ideal rinse time during your consultation so we can tailor the experience just for you!

  • Will the spray tan stain my clothes or sheets?

The bronzer from the tan may rub off onto your clothes, sheets, etc.  I suggest wearing long-sleeved, dark clothing to wear while your tan is processing until your first rinse!

Most tanning solutions wash out of materials, but they may leave marks on clothing made from natural fibers or lighter fabrics, such as wool, silk, and chiffon.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    Cash, debit/credit cards.

Tips are accepted through Venmo as well!

  • How many people can I have at my spray tan party?

Spray tan parties accommodate 5 total people. If you have a bride tribe or a need for a group larger than five, please email Cassie at ontheglowcustomspraytanning@gmail.com to schedule!

  • Will my skincare routine affect my tan?

Anti-aging and exfoliating products like AHAs, Retin-A, Tretinoin, toners, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Accutane, and similar products will cause your tan to fade more quickly.

  • Can I shave with a spray tan?

Shaving lightly exfoliates your skin, which causes your tan to fade slightly faster. When shaving with a spray tan, use a sharp razor and a spray tan safe body wash instead of shaving cream.

Waxing and products like NAIR will remove your tan.

  • Does a spray tan protect me from UV rays?

A spray tan does NOT protect you from the sun. Please protect yourself from UV rays with a spray-tan friendly sunscreen. Sunscreens containing alcohol will strip your tan.

Getting burnt before a spray tan can cause your tan to peel and appear uneven.

  • What soaps and lotions should I avoid after my tan?

Avoid any products that contain alcohol, mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, and fragrance.

    Avoid Dove products altogether!

  • How often should I be getting a spray tan?

This is completely up to you! Many clients choose to get a tan before a special event or occasion, while others choose a weekly or bi-weekly appointment.

Checkout my spray tan packages for my sunless sisters who want to glow often!

  • I have a nail appointment tomorrow, is it okay to get a spray tan today?

NO! Manis + pedis, waxes, facials, and massages should be completed 1-3 days prior to your spray tan appointment.

  • What do I wear during a spray tan appointment?

Feel free to wear whatever makes you feel your most confident and comfortable during your appointment.

Swimsuits, strapless bras, and undergarments are all great options. Disposable undergarments are also provided for your use.

Men must wear swim trunks, underwear, or shorts during the appointment.

Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and closed toed shoes after your appointment. Avoid tight clothing! Think Adam Sandler chic.

  • Can I get a spray tan if I’m on my period?

Absolutely! However, hormonal changes during your cycle can sometimes affect the outcome of your tan, causing it to develop differently or fade faster. If you're concerned, just let me know, and we can adjust things to help get the best results.

  • When can I shower?

I customize rinse times based on your desired color, skin tone, spray tan experience, and any needs (like needing to shower before work, etc.). Be sure to share your preferences during your consultation.

For your first shower, rinse with water only—no soap or other products. Deodorant and makeup are fine after this rinse. 24 hours post-tan, you can shower with soap (use a spray-tan-safe body wash), but avoid washcloths or loofahs, and gently pat dry with a towel.

  • I have a special occasion coming up, when should I get my spray tan?

24-48 hours before your special occasion is best. I recommend 48-72 hours before the wedding day for brides!

  • Will a spray tan make me orange?

No, that's a common misconception! Modern spray tan formulas are designed to complement all skin tones, even very fair ones. To ensure the best results, it’s important to follow the prep and aftercare instructions carefully.

  • How do mobile spray tan appointments work?

I can set up anywhere with at least a 5 x 5 space inside or outside your home, hotel, or apartment, as long as there’s an accessible outlet. Choose a spot that makes you feel comfortable and confident, ideally with good lighting—common choices include:  living rooms, bedrooms, or basements.

The appointment includes a quick consultation and setup, followed by the spray, and then any aftercare steps. After that, I pack up and leave, leaving your space just as it was!

  • Will a spray tan cover my tan lines?

A spray tan can help even out skin tones and soften light strap lines. However, very distinct lines from things like halter tops, sports bras, or watch straps are very difficult to “make even.”

I cannot guarantee I will be able to cover every tan line.

For a  big event or wedding, it's a good idea to consider things like wearing a bandeau, avoiding wearing a watch for long periods outdoors, using sunscreen, and staying out of the sun to prevent deep tan lines.

  • What if I need to cancel my appointment?

I get it–sometimes things come up and you may need to cancel. On The Glow Custom Spray Tanning charges a 50% cancellation fee for all services.

If you need an appointment outside of our regular hours or on days I’m closed, I offer an "after hours" option for an additional $30 fee. Please contact ontheglowcustomspraytanning@gmail.com to inquire.

Wedding FAQs

  • When should I book my bridal tan?

It’s best to book your spray tan 2-3 days before your wedding or your first wedding event. You will want to be able to take two soapy showers after your tan before putting on your dress.

Your tan should be the very last thing you get done—hair, nails, massages, facials, all of that should happen before your tan appointment.

I highly recommend doing a trial tan before the big day so we can test out colors, additives, and make sure everything is perfect for your wedding!

  • Will my spray tan come off on my wedding dress?

Your spray tan won’t rub off on your wedding dress! I always recommend doing at least two rinses before your wedding or any big events—your first rinse after your appointment and a second one to make sure any leftover bronzer is completely washed away.

  • What if my wedding party / bridesmaids / event guests would like a spray tan, too?

I’d love to tan your bride tribe! My tanning party service  is ideal for up to 6 people, but if you have a larger group, I can create a custom package based on the number of guests. A deposit is required to book. The appointment will be scheduled under one person’s name, but each guest will need to fill out a consent form before their session. Everyone can choose their solution at the time of booking.

  • Why do I need a trial tan?

I always recommend a trial spray tan—especially if it’s your first time, but even if you’ve tanned with me before. A trial run helps us find your perfect wedding color so there are no surprises before the big day!

The best time for a trial tan is 2-3 weeks before your wedding tan. This gives you time to see how the color develops and make any adjustments if needed.

I also tell my brides to plan their trial tan around a bridal event so it doesn’t go to waste! Whether it’s your bridal shower, bachelorette party, or even wedding dress shopping, you’ll still get to enjoy a gorgeous tan.

  • When should I get my nails done?

Manis + pedis, waxes, facials, and massages should be completed 1-3 days prior to your spray tan appointment.

Do NOT schedule any beauty appointments after you’ve had your spray tan.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    Cash, debit/credit cards.

Tips are accepted through Venmo as well!

  • How can I maintain my tan on my honeymoon?

    1. Lock in Hydration – Add the HydraBoost moisture treatment to your spray tan session. This extra boost of hydration helps extend your tan by 2-3 days and keeps your skin feeling smooth.
    2. Make It Sweat & Swim-Resistant – If you're traveling somewhere warm or plan on swimming, I highly recommend adding my sweat-resistant formula to your tan. It helps your color hold up better in heat, humidity, and water.
    3. Use a Tan Extender – Starting on day 3, apply a tan-extending lotion in the evenings to gradually refresh any fading color as your skin naturally sheds. Be sure to wash your hands after applying any tan extender to avoid staining your palms!
  • Do you offer any savings for brides?

I know wedding expenses add up fast, which is why I offer a variety of package options to keep you glowing for all your big moments!

The Bridal Tan Package includes both a trial tan and your wedding day tan, so you can feel confident knowing your color is perfect.

I also offer tanning packages that can keep you bronzed for your bridal shower, engagement photos, bachelorette party, and any other events leading up to the big day.
